The Purpose of Spirituality in Life

The Purpose of Spirituality in Life

Sitting on my sofa, a stranger the other day asked me a question: “What is spirituality?”

I looked at her and smiled. “Spirituality is the relationship you have with your spirit, your being,” I answered. I continued… "We are all spiritual beings, but over time, we let ourselves forget. We forget where we were born from - the seed of wholeness and love, the essence of holistic and spiritual healing."

The lessons we chose to learn in this school of Earth were taught so well that we forgot what they were. So what is the purpose of spirituality?

What is the purpose of having a relationship with yourself?

Years go by, and we become embroiled in this illusion we call Life. The joys, the suffering, the victories, the pain, the chaos, and the silence.

We bury our Ātmann—our being. We add layers to this illusion; moments, tall tales, stories we create. Like adding layers of clothing, forgetting we already have some on, forgetting the roots of our spiritual well-being.

We get so taken in by life, we keep layering ourselves deeper and deeper. And as the years pass, we become heavy carrying this weight, forgetting who we are. We feel comfortable in being uncomfortable, worn, and tired. So when I say we have forgotten our relationship with ourselves, it’s because I see you wearing all those layers.

We’ve become heavy. Imagine removing one layer. Imagine the lightness of letting go. Imagine peeling your jacket off on a hot summer day and standing there, against the cool breeze of life… the relief, the joy of releasing.

It’s the same way. The peeling of your layers; the stories you’ve told yourself. The letting go of all the versions you decided were you. The moment you say, “I am accepting all that I am and beginning a relationship with myself,” is the moment you remember your spirit. You return to your wholeness, your spirit, your wellness.

The purpose of knowing your spirit is to become lighter, to remember that we are all temporary here. This Earth school is only here to teach us lessons, and the journey is filled with healing practices, whether through silence, awareness, or meditation for healing.

As you grow into yourself, you may find comfort in mindfulness meditation or explore deeper through guided meditation. Each practice is part of the soul blueprint that we all carry within.

And it is up to us to move through the levels with awareness or with oblivion.

The choice is yours. Let’s begin the journey of a relationship with ourselves. I’ll walk with you. I’ll hold your hand. Each week, through my writings we'll remember together.
